Acupuncture & TCM

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are based on an ancient Asian philosophy that describes the universe and the body in terms of yin and yang, which are two opposing forces. The body is healthy when the two forces are in balance. Qi is an energy that flows along the meridians or pathways in the body and keeps the two forces in balance. Therefore, in Chinese Medicine if the energy flow or the Qi becomes blocked, the body will be in an unbalanced state and can lead to dysfunction, pain, or sickness.

How do TCM’s and Acupuncturists treat patients?

In an appointment, a Chinese Medicine Doctor observes the signs and symptoms of the patient first, and based on the findings from both patient’s description and a physical examination they determine if there is a stagnation of energy in the patient’s meridian pathways.

These imbalances can be treated through carefully selected herbal formulas and remedies, and/or a series of acupuncture or cupping treatments:

  • Acupuncture can release the energy blockages and return the body to a balanced and healthy state.  Acupuncturists insert very thin needles at specific points along the meridian lines increasing circulation and metabolism in the body, which promotes the body’s natural self- healing process.  Stefan is trained in Traditional Acupuncture, Five Elements Acupuncture, warm acupuncture, and cupping.
  • Providing Herbal Remedies is one way that a practitioner can improve the effectiveness of acupuncture treatments and in many cases reduce the overall recovery time for health concerns.
  • Certified Practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine also incorporate dietary and lifestyle recommendations into each visit to better balance the body’s energy.

Who goes to a TCM & Acupuncturist?

Patients seek acupuncture for many different reasons including managing chronic conditions, preventing disease, and recovering from injuries. One reason many people choose to do acupuncture and TCM is that these treatments are relatively non-invasive, natural, and holistic with few side effects. Each individual person’s health needs are different, and will therefore receive a customized treatment plan tailored to their specific health goals and physical needs.
