Vitamin D Please
Vitamin D3 for bone strength
You’ve probably heard of Vitamin D before, and most likely in reference to the sun (or in our case, lack there of).
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that promotes the absorption of calcium, regulates bone growth and plays a role in immune function. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is found in animal-sourced foods, like egg yolk, liver, butter and oily fish. Our skin is responsible for make Vitamin D3 when it is exposed to sunlight. This proves to be difficult given our climate and geographic location. We are not exposed to enough direct sunlight a day to produce the Vitamin D needed by our bodies. Additionally, even in sunny seasons you may not be getting enough Vitamin D. When your skin is protected by sunblock it cannot produce Vtiamin D from the sunlight.
Vitamin D3 appears to be better than D2 at improving vitamin D status. Experts recommend between 1000 – 2000ius or 25-50mg daily in order to support healthy bone growth and immune function.
