Reflecting back on 2018

Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties ~ Helen Keller

The calendar year is coming to a close again.  Every year, I look back at the accomplishments of our staff, our colleagues, and of each and every individual and family we see come through the doors of our office. I am amazed at how we continue to grow and change year after year, hardly noticing these changes until we stop and take the time to reflect and celebrate.

One of the things I love to do during the quieter days of the year, in the space between Christmas and New Years is pause, look back and then look forward to face the coming year. I find a singular word to focus the next year on, and then direct my energies to bring it to life.

In 2018, my word was Movement.  And we certainly had movement.

We said goodbye to Liz at the end of 2017, leaving a big hole in our administrative team. Stephanie rose to the occasion and supported our office with exceptional dedication while we searched for our new administrator, Adrienne Figliuzzi . On top of that she showed Adrienne the ropes and helped everyone find their footing with all the changes. The two worked to ease the transition into our new booking system to make it nearly seamless for both client and practitioner. In September, Adrienne stepped into Stephanie’s shoes when she left for maternity leave. Adrienne has become an invaluable asset in our office administration team.

Stephanie has had a whirlwind year, welcoming baby Amara into the world in early October.  We are all so happy for them both, and look forward to having Stephanie back with us when her maternity leave ends.

One of the long standing values of Eastpoint has been minimizing our environmental footprint and waste production whenever possible. We have transitioned into using reusable cups, hand towels, and face sheets throughout our practice. We have done office upgrades, including our amazing new custom made front reception desk, using re-purposed materials whenever possible. We also plan on extending our environmental efforts by transitioning into paperless charting (e-charting) starting January 1st, 2019.

Some numbers:

  • Through monthly Babywearing Meetups, over 50 families this
past year have gained confidence in wearing their babies close to their hearts.
  • Over 400 individuals came through our office for care, entrusting us with their stories and histories.
  • Over 4000 visits were provided, helping our clients feel better in both mind and body.
  • Over 30 babies have been born to families of our practice this year.

It’s been a good year.  And the movement continues until the final days of this year.

Anika Cornish will be saying goodbye at the end of the month.  After 3 years with us, she will be moving her counselling practice to be full time at East Vancouver Counselling, located at 10th & Commercial.  All counselling files and charts will be transferred with her practice, and patients can continue to book online. We all wish her the very best in her growing counselling practice.

Dr. Marina Liarsky is continuing her family wellness chiropractic practice at Eastpoint Natural Health Clinic in the new year.
She has also teamed up with a group of functional therapists operating from The Physio Shop and is branching out to offer sports-specific rehabilitation, strength and conditioning services to movement-focused people separate from her family practice.

We continue to grow.  To ebb and to flow.  To branch out and to fold inwards. We, like our practices and our work, are never static. I truly love what I do, and I look forward to 2019 and what it holds.

With Love,

Anne
